The 55

When we were young and first married, Diane would travel from Burntwood to Birmingham on the Harper Brothers Bus to work.

It has been thirty years and more since you travelled along this way, To catch the bus to Birmingham, to earn a little pay. Young and newly married, you journeyed in each day.

Then with your baby growing inside you, It was time no more to say, “I have to get the early bus to take me on my way.”

Your children born and grown up now, Have all but moved away and the years have quite flown since you travelled every day.

Your girl like you before her, travels on the early bus each day, Snuggled up to keep her warm, to earn a little pay, And like you, she no more has to say, “I have to get the early bus to take me on my way……..”
